foodie trip to doncaster

Well I never thought I would be saying ‘foodie trip to Doncaster!’

I was born in Donnie but left as a baby, and then I returned as a young woman to train to become a nurse at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

I have wonderful memories of my time with my lovely Auntie Brenda during my training. She lived not far from the hospital, the door was always open and she was an incredibly kind, non-judgemental and encouraging support in my life.

When I read the amazing Jay Rayner review of Clam & Cork in The Observer I jumped at the chance to visit with my friends Karen and Andrew Cussons (who are both chefs and love any excuse for a foodie outing!)

We had a superb lunch and enjoyed every minute. The atmosphere was more like the markets of Barcelona, Lisbon or Funchal than how I remembered Doncaster. And the food… oh my it was amazing.

On the train journey to Donnie I had some time to reflect on what a lovely person my Auntie was, as she sadly died this summer. It was a very special day out and I am looking forward to another trip to Clam & Cork at Doncaster Markets soon.
